Welcome on this blog full of information about Horror and Mystery Comics, and offcourse the comics.
Horror comics are comic books, graphic novels, black-and-white comics magazines, and manga focusing on horror fiction. Horror comic books reached a peak in the late 1940s through the mid-1950s, when concern over content and the imposition of the self-censorship Comics Code Authority contributed to the demise of many titles and the toning down of others. Black-and-white horror-comics magazines, which did not fall under the Code, flourished from the mid-1960s through the early 1980s from a variety of publishers. Mainstream American color comic books experienced a horror resurgence in the 1970s, following a loosening of the Code. While the genre has had greater and lesser periods of popularity, it occupies a firm niche in comics as of the 2010s.
The first dedicated horror comic books appear to be Gilberton Publications’ Classic Comics #13 (Aug. 1943), with its full-length adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and Avon Publications’ anthology Eerie #1 (Jan. 1947), the first horror comic with original content. The first horror-comics series is the anthology Adventures into the Unknown, premiering in 1948 from American Comics Group, initially under the imprint B&I Publishing.
You can access the information and comics through the sidebar.
The comics are mostly in packages from around 100mb, inside these rar-packages you will find the comics in cbr format.
You can view the comics with any cbr-reader like CDisplay or ComicRack.
I did not scan the comics myself only collect them from various sites on the internet, internet archive, Usenet Newsgroups and torrents.
So thanks to all the scanners and uploaders.
This blog is purely ment to preserve the comics and to enjoy them, no financial meanings are involved, if you like the comics buy them as long as they are availabe, because nothing can beat the feeling of reading a real comic.
If you find something wrong (downloads, numbering, information) please let me know so that i can correct the error.

Hi, your blogs are incredible thanks but there are a heck of a lot of sfv file checksum errors – maybe because they are zipped in double folders? They can be fixed by unzipping and removing the error file and duplicate folder.

Yes – I still like to use cd display 1.8 and I only have this on your files at the moment – I have to click on every pages warning before I can view! (example Atlas Battle 1). I can’t see how it’s my new WD drive – I just lost my entire digital life on my Samsung (Seagate in disguise I’ve since discovered) including some rare old stuff that can’t be found anywhere online now. Hey Boutje,
First off, thank you so much for your hard work and dedication. I can tell this took you years to do and it’s a treasure trove. I have a question for the horror connoisseur. I’m new to comics. I’ve always loved Creepshow and I’ve watched every Tales of the Crypt episode many times, along with many other horror anthology films, books and tv shows (Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, Asylum, Books of Blood, etc.). I’ve been trying to get into the comics now, starting with Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror and Haunt of Fear. What, in your personal opinion, are the best of all of these series? There are so many to choose from. I’ve seen blogs stating that Creepy, Eerie and Swamp Thing are all in the top 5ish. Do you agree? What should I read after I finish the comics I’m working on now?

Thanks, you are welcome. My personal taste for horror goes to the 50s-60s horror like EC titles Haunt of fear, Vault of horror, Tales from the crypt, but actually most titles from this period of the cencorship from the Comics Code Authority.

I have dreamt of being able to read these comics since I was a kid in the mid-80’s. I got this book called The Encyclopedia of Horror for my 11th birthday (not the Penguin version) and there was a chapter on Pre-Comics Code Horror comics. There were many photos of covers of various series. I was enthralled. It sent me on a journey scouring comic book stores, spending my paper route money buying up any sort of Horror comics I could find. Here in Pittsburgh we had Phantom of the Attic, Eides and Bill and Walt’s downtown, all of which had Horror comics in bargain bin boxes under their tables which held the Super Hero titles. I found a lot of old D.C. titles like House Of Mystery, House of Secrets, Ghosts, Witching Hour, etc. I loved them, even though I sensed they were missing something being they were neutered Post-Code titles. I was happy with whatever I could get my hands on. Then, around 87 I think, I saw the first of the EC reissues and I nearly had an anyeurism! That was as close as I got until finding a few torrents awhile back. Your blog is a true treasure! Having everything so well organized with the extensive histories of each title. Thank you again for all of your efforts here!
